The Upper West Regional Police Command has secured the conviction of 47-year-old Kwame Ti-Zaaekuu after the Lawra Circuit Court found him guilty of incest and threat of death following the successful prosecution of a disturbing sexual abuse case involving his 17-year-old biological daughter.

According to a statement issued by the Police, investigations by the Lawra District Police established that the convict repeatedly sexually abused his daughter, who is a Junior High School (JHS) student, over an extended period. The victim reportedly remained silent because her father allegedly threatened to kill her if she disclosed the abuse to anyone.

Following a full trial on Friday, July 24, 2026, the Lawra Circuit Court, presided over by His Honour Stanley Adjei, found the accused guilty on both charges.

For the offence of incest, the court sentenced him to 20 years’ imprisonment with hard labour, while he received an additional 10 years’ imprisonment with hard labour for the offence of threat of death. The court ordered that both sentences run concurrently, meaning the convict will serve 20 years in prison with hard labour.

In addition to the prison sentence, the court directed the Department of Social Welfare in Lawra to provide the survivor with counselling and psychosocial support to aid her recovery from the trauma she endured.

The Upper West Regional Police Command commended the dedication and professionalism of the investigators and prosecutors whose efforts led to the successful conviction. The Command also urged the public to promptly report all cases of sexual abuse, incest, domestic violence, and other forms of abuse to the Police to ensure victims receive protection and offenders are brought to justice.

The conviction highlights the Ghana Police Service’s commitment to protecting vulnerable persons, particularly children, and ensuring perpetrators of sexual and domestic abuse face the full rigours of the law.
