The Northern Regional Police Command has arrested two suspected drug dealers and recovered 170 parcels of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp during an intelligence-led anti-drug operation at Katariga in the Tamale Metropolis.

According to a Police press release, the operation was carried out on Monday, July 27, 2026, at about 5:30 p.m. by the Northern Regional Special Operations Team (Red Maria) as part of the Command’s ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and other criminal activities in the region.

The first suspect, Godwin Yamegi, 32, was arrested after officers found him in possession of two parcels of the suspected narcotic substance. During interrogation, he allegedly identified Seth Amekuse, 33, as the supplier of the drugs.

Acting swiftly on the intelligence, police proceeded to Seth Amekuse’s residence at Katariga, where he was arrested. A search of his room led to the recovery of an additional 168 parcels of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.

In total, the operation resulted in the seizure of 170 parcels of the suspected narcotic substance. The exhibits have since been handed over to the Regional Drugs Law Enforcement Unit (RDLEU) for further investigation and processing.

The Ghana Police Service has reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying the fight against drug trafficking and related crimes and has encouraged the public to continue supporting law enforcement by providing timely and credible information on criminal activities.
