National Peaceful Public Demonstration – “Democracy Under Attack”

The New Patriotic Party (NPP), together with civil society organizations, professional bodies, faith-based groups, political parties, youth organizations, and other patriotic Ghanaians, has announced a peaceful national demonstration to be held on Thursday, 6 August 2026, under the theme “Democracy Under Attack.”

The demonstration aims to defend Ghana’s constitutional democracy, judicial independence, the Rule of Law, and the integrity of democratic institutions. According to the organizers, the protest is a response to what they describe as politically motivated persecution, selective application of justice, disregard for due process, and actions they believe threaten the independence of key state institutions.

Participants will assemble at 5:00 a.m. at the Community Centre opposite the Supreme Court before marching through an approved route to Jubilee House. During the exercise, three petitions will be presented to the Judiciary, the Executive, and Parliament, calling for renewed commitment to constitutional governance, institutional independence, accountability, and respect for the Rule of Law.

The organisers emphasise that the demonstration is intended to be peaceful and lawful. They state that they have notified the Ghana Police Service in accordance with the Public Order Act, urge participants to cooperate with security personnel, and dissociate themselves from any acts of violence, vandalism, or unlawful conduct.

The NPP has invited all Ghanaians, civil society organisations, professional associations, religious bodies, students, organised labour, and the diplomatic community to participate. Attendees are encouraged to wear black and red as a symbol of concern for Ghana’s democracy and commitment to defending constitutional governance.

The party says the demonstration marks the beginning of a broader programmed of lawful constitutional engagement, with the next phase planned for Kumasi.
