The Ghana Police Service has arrested Nana Yaw Bonsu Kwarteng, a suspected romance scammer, for allegedly defrauding several women through false promises of marriage and the non-consensual sharing of their intimate images.

According to preliminary police investigations, the suspect allegedly posed as a pastor who conducted online church services on Instagram, where he targeted women by claiming that God had revealed they were destined to become his wives. To gain their trust, he reportedly met the families of some of the women and presented them with promise rings, reinforcing the false impression that he intended to marry them.

Police investigations further indicate that after gaining the confidence of his victims, the suspect allegedly persuaded some of them to send him intimate images, which he later used to blackmail them into paying money.

The suspect is also accused of introducing some victims to what investigators describe as a fake car tyre business, convincing them to invest thousands of dollars under the pretext of shipping and clearing containers of tyres. After receiving the funds, he allegedly became unreachable.

Investigators further allege that the suspect shared some of the victims’ intimate images with his wife, Sally Akosua Amoasah, who is also accused of threatening the victims with the images.

So far, seven victims have officially reported the matter to the Police, with investigations indicating that the alleged offences date back to 2021.

The suspects, Nana Yaw Bonsu Kwarteng and Sally Akosua Amoasah, have been arraigned before Accra Circuit Court 1 on charges including conspiracy to commit crime, namely defrauding by false pretences, defrauding by false pretences, and non-consensual sharing of intimate images.

The court remanded Nana Yaw Bonsu Kwarteng into Police custody, and he is expected to reappear before the court on 6 August 2026. Sally Akosua Amoasah was granted bail pending the continuation of the trial.

The Ghana Police Service says it continues to receive complaints from other possible victims and is urging anyone who may have experienced similar incidents involving the suspect to report to the nearest police station to assist with ongoing investigations.

The allegations remain before the court, and both accused persons are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in accordance with the law.
